The newly appointed Rector of the Plateau State Polytechnic Dr Clement Selchum Chirman has today 8 February, 2024 assume office as the Acting Rector of the institution at the permanent site, Heipang Barkin Ladi Local Government Council of the State.
That Rector resume duty following Governor Barr Caleb M. Mutfwang appointed him in an acting capacity as the Rector of the renowned institution with immediate effect. The governor in a letter of appointment signed by the Secretary to the Government of the State, Arc Samuel Nanchang Jatau, FNIA directed the Rector to look into the relationship between workers and the institution, and to also probe the source of income and expenditure of the immediate removed Rector.
Taking over from the Deputy Rector, Matthias Andong, the accomplished scholar promised to achieve greatness “by learning and listening to suggestions and ideas from both management and other staff of the polytechnic”.
Statement from the Polytechnic reads “Dr. Cirman said his experience as a former Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics(ASUP), Plateau State Polytechnic Chapter, former Dean in the School as well as a one-time Member, Governing Council of the Polytechnic placed him in a very good position to have known the Polytechnic intimately”.
“He said that in the light of the above therefore, there will be no room for excuses as reasons for non-performance by any member of his team” added the statement.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Rector, Plateau State Polytechnic, Mathias Andong said that Dr. Cirman is a colleague and home-grown as such knows the workings of the institution.
He said the new Rector is a square peg in a square hole and has higher compassion for the institution and believes that the Polytechnic is higher than all other interests.
The Deputy Rector said the former Rector had complied with government’s directive to hand over to the next most senior officer in the school, that was why he was the one handing over to the acting Rector.
