Traditional rulers in Qua’an Pan Local Government Area have agreed to join hands with the Local Authorities to resolve a land dispute between the natives and fulani residents in Kwari village, Namu chiefdom.
This came to light following a meeting initiated by the Transition Implementation Committee Chairman of the Council, Christopher Wallat.
The TIC Chairman explained that he has been directed by Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to step into the matter and resolve all issues raised by the inhabitants of Kwari.
This he said is to ensure that enemies of the state do not have the opportunity to take advantage of the situation, which if not properly addressed, is capable snowballing into a crisis that may have unpleasant consequences òn the lives and properties of the people.
While briefing the Qua’an Pan traditional institution, Development Organizations, the Fulanis and other critical stakeholders in the area , Wallat noted that the lingering issue in contention was as a result of a piece of land left behind by the owner who passed away, with two of his immediate neighbors laying claim to it, resulting into the dispute.
The Chairman and the traditional rulers later excused both parties involved in the matter and went into a close door meeting to fashion out ways to resolve the impasse.
The outcome was the constitution of a Committee comprising members of the Qua’an Pan traditional council as well as the Council Secretary to visit the said land in Kwari with a view to put the matter to rest.
In order to avoid any further misunderstanding on the disputed land , the Local administration temporarily took possession of the land , pending the outcome of the committee’s finding. They noted that all parties involved must exercise restrain in the interest of peace, harmony and development.
The TIC Chairman Christopher Wallat assured the people of the commitment of government at the local and state levels to foster the spirit of unity , peace and stability in the locality.
He tasked the committee members to be fair and just to all parties and to exhibit a high sense of responsibility in the discharge of their responsibility.
Wallat called on citizens to coexist peacefully for the overall growth and development of the area and its environs.
