The Plateau State High Court under the leadership of His Lordship Justice David Mann and Chief Registrar Andrawus Maikai has being describe as a model to other High Courts in Nigeria.
This commendation was made by Dr. Daniel Seredo a faculty member of the Taraba State University Faculty of Law and the staff adviser who led the delegation of the law student to visit Jos the Plateau State capital yesterday Wednesday, 28th August 2024.
Dr Seredo disclosed that the law students were in Jos and the Plateau State High Court complex on a study tour.
Furthermore the academia Dr. Seredo stated that they were excited and attracted by the reputation of the court’s impressive architecture and were eager to see the edifice for themselves.
He said upon arrival the enthused students were warmly welcomed and given a comprehensive tour of the various offices and courtrooms within the Plateau State High Court by the hardworking Chief Registrar, Barr Andrawus Maikai.
The facility tour was led by the Chief Register of the Plateau State High Court, Barr Andrawus Maikai, along with other senior court staff.
During the visit, the students had the opportunity to explore both the old colonial building and the modern court facilities, including the new edifice, which has garnered significant attention for its state-of-the-art features.
He commended them for their hospitality and for taking the time to show the students around.
Dr. Seredo highlighted the reason and the value of the visit, noting that, “Our experience in Plateau State is fantastic, memorable and excellent. We have seen the court, the library, the Judges’ chambers, the ceremonial hall, the nine court halls, with the e-facilities therein.
He continued, “we are quite impressed and have also visited the Plateau State Multidoor House, which looks absolutely beautiful and alluring.He also hinted that the West African Court of Appeal, which is no longer in use but serves as a significant monument.
The Leader of the team hinted that they also visited the former High Court building and in overall, they have “encountered many aspects that have met our expectations and even exceeded them.”
The visit was part of a broader initiative by the Faculty of Law at Taraba State University to provide students with practical insights into legal practices and institutions. Dr. Seredo elaborated on this, stating, “We came for a study visit as part of our effort to encourage students to engage more deeply with legal education. Our aim was to involve them in core curricular activities and we planned to visit NIPSS Kuru Jos before coming to Plateau State. We have been very impressed with how legal practices are conducted at the Plateau State High Court.”
Responding to inquiries at press briefing from Publishers and select journalists, the Chief Registrar of the Plateau State High Court of Justice,Barr Andrawus Maikai expressed his pleasure in hosting the Taraba State University Law Students and their disciplined nature in their conduct. He spoke on the significance of the visit, saying, “The Plateau State High Court is delighted to have received the law students from Taraba State University. They came because they had heard about our court edifice, and we took them on a facility tour that included the old colonial building, which previously housed the West African Court of Appeal before it was moved to Kaduna State. I advised the students to stay focused and work diligently as they are the future leaders of this country.”
The visit by the law students from Taraba State University not only provided them with valuable exposure to the workings of the Plateau State High Court but also highlighted the court’s historical and modern significance, marking a memorable and enriching experience for all involved.
