A Non Governmental Organisation under the auspices of Security for the Transfer of Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE NIGERIA) has put a smile on the faces of the people living in Dunggwan Community area of Pankshin South in Pankshin Local Government Area and that of Bugal Community area of Mangu Local Government Area of the State by providing them with good and quality drinking water to ease the long age water scarcity within the locality.
TASTE in its magniminity sunk a 10,000 litters solar power capacity Motorise Borehole in each of the Community that was commissioned yesterday 13, May, 2023 in its quest to give the people of the Community affordable and good drinking water to reduce the rate of communicable diseases among the people due to bad drinking water and hygiene.
Performing the Commissioning ceremony at Dunggwan (Dyerok) the Community leader Nda Long Mhiship Sunday Danjep commended the effort of the leadership of Dunggwan Community Development and Cultural Association for its foresight which resulted into payment of the mandatory 600k 10% counterpart funding as it required by TASTE to attract the multi million naira project for the benefit of the people he said.
Nda Long Mhiship Sunday Manjep also stated that the water project is not going to be use only by Dunggwan Dyerok Community alone but is going to be enjoy by the entire community living close by which is going forster more unity among their neighbours.
On his part, the Chairman Dunggwan Community Development and Cultural Association Mr. Alex Dafohot started by commending the effect of the link man between Dunggwan Community and TASTE Mr Dennis Datir who sold the Idea to him.
He said, after him (the Chairman) went through the memorandum of understanding, and actually understand the benefits his Community stand to benefit from the NGO he immediately keyed into it by making frantic consultation and calling for widows might donations from the spirited sons and daughters of the Community which today has become a history.
Furthermore, the Chairman also revealed that immediately after they paid the 600k 10% counterpart funding into the account of the NGO, then next was the training of some selected members of the community who will inturn train the larger members of the community on water and hygiene sanitation.
Also on his part, Mr Jonathan Makans the Chief Project Officer of Transfer of Appropriate Sustainable Technology and Expertise (TASTE NIGERIA) stated that TASTE NIGERIA came into being some 21 years ago in Jos the Plateau State capital.
He said, the NGO has been helping rural communities in need in the area of water and hygiene sanitation provision.
Mr Makans in his disclosure, also revealed that they met with Mr Dennis Datir in similar program of this nature, which he drew the attention of the NGO to his Community over their hardship in the area of getting portable drinking water.
The Chief Project Officer Mr Jonathan Makans also revealed that when Datir contacted him, he asked him to officially write to the NGO, but he should be aware that the NGO deal on first come first.
He also revealed that as of now about 80 Community have officially written to them calling for their urgent attention presently in same area of water intervention.
Mr. Makans stated that his NGO always provide solar power boreholes and to provide such a quality borehole is not easy, because the borehole have 10k water capacity tank, and is spread into three different locations for easier accessibility of about three hundred to four hundred metres but in their own case they had to do 600 metres due to the peculiarity of the community as it is a rocky place.
He also revealed that provision of water is not the only thing their NGO is doing, but there are training they always offer to the members of the benefiting communities, that always follows, such as training of about sixteen people who will serve as health promoters within the community.
These same people always serve as the ambassador of the NGO who have the responsibility of taking care of the water project.
The Chief Project Officer also advise the members of the community to always contribute a token per household for the maintenance of the borehole.
In a similar event, the team was also in Bugal Community of Mangu Local Government Area of the State to Commissioned another 10k solar power capacity Motorise Borehole.
Arriving at Bugal, the team was warmly received by the National President of Bugal Community Development Association Mr Danmangu Hassan Dawel, the Shakada Mangu Rtd. SGT Ibrahim Pofi who was represented by Abel Nwan.
In his remark, Mr. Dawel the National President, stated that Bugal Community is among the luckiest Community on the Plateau to have such a louderble project sited in their community.
He said it is not just by mistake, but it is as a result of unity among the people living in the community.
The National President also revealed that it is also because of the effort of his people sending their wards to school that today the community is seriously benefiting from this kind of gesture.
Mr. Dawel further disclosed this particular project also foster unity among his people and the neighboring communities around them which another thing of joy to celebrate.
He also used the opportunity to thank all the sons and daughters of the community who contribute in one way or the other to the actualisation the project.
On his part, the Shakada Mangu Rtd. SGT Ibrahim Pofi who was represented by Abel Nwan stated that the project came into being as a result of their unity of purpose which started over forty years ago.
He said, there will never be development where there is crises, and so he called on the people to live in peace with one another.
The Community Leader also call on the youths of the community to always be vigilant and watch over the water project and never to allow anybody to vandalise the borehole.
